The Remarkable
Life of
Wong Chin Foo |
Wong ran the Chinese Equal Rights League
from New York's Bible House - an ironic choice, given his
anti-Christian sentiments.
Wong sometimes feared for his life when
he preached against gambling, opium smoking and prostitution,
enterprises often under the control of his fellow Chinese.
In 1869-70, Wong attended Lewisburg
Academy, now Pennsylvania's Bucknell University. The college's
alumni magazine ran a cover story on him in the spring of 2013.
Two of Wong Chin Foo's great-great
grandchildren, James Wong and Wang Jian, attended a book talk at
the Chinese Historical Society in San Francisco.
